Assorted Recent Animals

As a continuation of my recent trend towards dog portraits, below is a portrait of Ooha, beloved of my friends Ashley and Christia, to commemorate their wedding.

My beloved friend Jane and my mother and I are putting together a show of images relating to backyards and alleys. Here are the first few creatures to nominate themselves to be shown as a part of it.

Belated Snails (are you surprised?) from the Big 500 Show

Well it took them a little while to make it here, but that is to be expected: snails from last Winter's Big 500 Show in PDX.

First Friday at Swing Tree Brewing in Ashland, OR

Here is a little taste of images to be hung at Swing Tree Brewing during the month of February. I am mixing it up this time--oldies (but goodies) with some newer pieces, and figure work with animal portraits. I took at look at the collection of pieces in my garage (read: storage issue) and decided I'd see if I can give a few of these classics a new home. Thanks to the new set of Prismacolors I got for Christmas (Thanks, JD!), there are a few new animal faces as well.

The Big 500 Strikes Again!

Opening December 12th at the People's Art of Portland (located on the top floor of Pioneer Place Mall), The Big 500 show boasts roughly 5,000 original works of art from 500 Portland(ish) artists. All pieces are $50.00 cash/n/carry. Proceeds support the Oregon Food Bank, The Peoples Art of Portland Gallery, and your local friendly artists. Beer and DJs and riproarin' good time included.  

Here are my submissions for this year's show (which evolved somehow into a woodland creature theme): 

88 Strong at the Goodfoot, comin' up

The 88 Strong is the annual art show held at the Goodfoot in SE Portland, thus named as it is intended as a gathering of 88 artists, showing strong work, and united in a single front. 

The deal is this: 88 Artists make up to 8 works each on wooden panels that are 8" x 8". They select their themes (more or less) from a list of 88 Term Topic, presumably devised by the ingenious curators, Jason Brown and Chris Haberman.  Pieces are hung solon style and sans signature, a veritable ball pit of delicious images for any art-happy patron to dive into.  All Art is sold through the Goodfoot for $50/each.  Artists make $30/from each panel solds ($10/framing, $10 curators/show). All art is SOLD Cash/Carry. The Goodfoot is an artsy bar, but still a bar, 21-over only. Remaining work after opening night will be left on the walls and continually sold until the next Opening.  

The Last Thursday reception is at The Goodfoot (2845 Se Stark), June 25th, 5-Midnight. Doors open promptly at 5pm. No work will be sold online or in person, before the doors open this day.  DJ. Bar Stuff. Art. Fun.

The Big 500

The Big 400 has returned, and my how it has grown! This year there will be 500 Oregon artists creating ten original works each. Every piece is $40, cash'n'carry. The show runs from December 13th to January 11th. There is a big reception Saturday, December 13th from 2 to 9pm, with djs and beer and a rapidly approaching tsunami of art that will jam your senses with its panoply of original ideas and techniques.  A portion of the proceeds go to the Oregon Food Bank. Located at the People's Art of Portland on the top floor of Pioneer Place Mall. Come check it out!
